Panel Discussion – “How to Survive Student Teaching and Your 1st Year of Teaching”
Speakers – Ken Hoving, Katie Hoving, & Jessica Goschy
The purpose of this panel discussion is to inform pre-service teachers and first year teachers about what to
expect during student teaching and their first year. Topics will include getting organized, managing behavior,
completing paperwork, etc.

8:00-9:00 AM – Breakfast and ISCEC Board Meeting – Session 1
“The Dangers of My Space and Facebook”
Speaker - Samantha Thomas
This presentation will highlight the risks of joining popular networking sites such as My Space and Facebook. It
will especially focus on why this is an issue when looking for a teaching position. This presentation will also
discuss how to access the ISCEC online discussion board.
9:00-10:00 AM – Session 2
“How to Prepare for an Interview”
Speaker – Susanne Carrescia
The intention of this session is to inform pre-service teachers about how to prepare for and ace an interview.
Some topics will include what to wear, what to research ahead of time, what questions may be asked, what
questions to ask, and what to bring.
10:00-11:00 AM – Session 3
“Current Issues in Special Education, Including Certification”
Speaker – TBD
This presentation is aimed at discussions on many of the current issues facing special education today. It will
also discuss the types of special education certification available and how to obtain them.
